Yoga Heights Review Part 2: Pilates

Last week I posted a review of yoga at Yoga Heights. Now it’s time for Pilates. I’ve done three different Pilates classes and they were all a bit different. Here goes.

I went to Yogalates with Michelle as often as I could. That class is great. The Pilates portion is challenging and usually goes through the first half hour or so of class. I like the yoga portion too because, though it’s not restorative, it’s only half an hour so it’s more manageable. (Except the day she decided to do hamstrings. That was just terrible.) I highly recommend this class. It’s fantastic! The biggest problem with this class is that it’s so late! 8:00 pm (actually now it’s at 7:45 pm) but that means I don’t get home until 9:15-9:30 which is too late for me.

By far the hardest class I’ve done has been Pilates on Sunday with Sarah. The first time I did this was the day after an 18 mile run. I think the Pilates was harder. For real. I don’t even remember a lot of what we did, just that it I did this class twice with Sarah and it was insane both times (I did it a third time but Michelle from Yogalates was subbing for Sarah). I would say this class is my favorite I’ve done. I spend most of it thinking it’s impossible and I probably shouldn’t have gone. At the end of the first one, I didn’t know if I’d be able to get up from my mat. When I have a job and a paycheck, this is definitely a class I’ll consider going to regularly. Like Yogalates, though, the time is a bit of a deterrent. It’s at 4:30 on Sunday which is usually okay for me but it would be hard to make it if I had other Sunday plans.

The other class, which I only did a couple times, was a Tuesday evening class and it was fine. I don’t think it’s anything truly amazing nor terrible. It was an okay class and a good option if it fits your schedule.

Overall, I really enjoyed going to Yoga Heights and would like to continue going. The first class is free. After starting my 30 day pass (which was $21), I went to 18 classes. That comes out to $1.16 per class. Pretty good deal. I should not that the current special for new students in 3 weeks for $30.

I think these classes really helped my marathon training and I’m glad I did them. Hopefully soon I’ll figure out how to go back (probably a bit less regularly…) or find another place to occasionally do Pilates.
