Cut back week is a beautiful thing

After several weeks of intense training, it’s important to have a bit of a break, lighten the training load, and rest a bit. That is happening now. And it’s glorious. Aside from being so insanely tired I can’t even describe it recently, my muscles were feeling like they needed a bit of a break too.

This week consists of only two runs during the week (one is really short) without any speed work and a pretty short long run on Saturday. At the beginning of last week I was a little disappointed about cutback week. I mean, I was getting into a groove, training was going well, I was feeling good, but by the end of the week I was very excited.

This week, I have started going to bed 30-40 minutes earlier and am waking up 20 minutes later. I feel so much better. It’s meant my evenings are pretty short. By the time I get home it’s just about bedtime but the benefits of getting more sleep far outweigh that extra half hour I could have been doing something.

So, hooray for less running and more sleeping this week!
